History of the Hot Tub
The earliest hot tubs in recorded history were natural stone calderas in which hot rocks were placed to heat the water.
Early man also made use of hot natural springs as a means by which to soak away their stress and worries.
One archeological site, Therma in Ikaria, dates manmade hot tub use back to the 4th century BC. Remnants of the marble tubs used to bathe in and the aqueduct used to move the water provide a picture of these historical hot tubs.
The ancient Romans were so big on soaking that the soldiers of the Roman Legion built baths at natural hot springs all over Europe during their conquests.
Sadly, the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of Christianity in the Middle Ages saw a significant decrease in bathing of any kind since soaking was seen as a path to sin.
